[penguicon-general] geek advice needed

I'm looking for an answer, but failing that answer any suggestions would be
welcome. Nothing is curing the migraine right now but I'm finding it
getting worse while I'm at work from staring at the 19" monitor that's about
arm's reach away from me, and as far back as I can get it on my desk. The
oddity is that the monitor on my laptop doesn't bother me anywhere near as
bad and I can stare at that one all day without the migraine getting much
worse at all.
This morning I noticed that the laptop monitor appeared to be "dimmer" than
the flat screen so I have adjusted the brightness and the contrast and we'll
see if that helps me any, but even now something about the flat screen I'm
in front of seems "harsher" than the laptop and you'd think the Gmail screen
would bother me about the same on both computers but it's not.
{{confusion}} I have also been all over the internet reading things on
monitor placement and eyestrain and headaches and migraines and I can't seem
to find any consensus there either. Half the sites I found said your
monitor should be a certain number of degrees below eye level and the other
half said it should be at or above eye level. (huh?)
Does anyone out there know why the laptop screen makes my eyes happier than
the work computer's flat screen? Failing that, does anyone have any
suggestions that have worked for them in making their head feel better when
a monitor is bothering them? There's just no way I'm going to be able to
get Patrick to hook my laptop up to the network so I can use that instead.
thanks!
Sarah
