Lyon Township Public Library
Part-time Computer Systems Technician
Position : Computer Systems Technician
Supervisor : Library Director
Salary Range : $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
Schedule : 15-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours
The Lyon Township Public Library, situated in New Hudson, MI is seeking a
part time Computer Systems Technician to begin January 3, 2008. This is a
new position. We are a small library in a growing community in southwest
Oakland County that passed our first operating millage in 2007 to expand
hours and services.
Must have a good sense of humor and customer service philosophy.
Typical Duties
• Installs and maintains upgrades for computer software, hardware, and other
peripheral equipment at the Library.
• Responds to user problems with software, hardware, and peripherals –
troubleshoots and corrects problems
• Performs backups on staff computers
• Maintains professional relationship with The Library Network for support
of the IT
infrastructure, shared system, SAM (Smart Access Manager), library
circulation
system and other technology related situations.
• Works with staff from all library departments
• Develops documentation
• Orders computer software and hardware
• Maintains purchase schedule for toner, paper, ribbons, cartridges, etc.
required to
maintain function so library electronic devices.
• Maintains an inventory database for tracking fixed assets
• Conducts computer training classes for staff and patrons
• Updates Library website using HTML
• Performs related duties as required
Required Qualifications and Abilities
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a
computer-related field preferred
• Experience with Windows XP, Microsoft Office suite, HTML
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and correct computer problems
• Excellent organization skills as well as written and oral communications
skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and assume responsibility
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
other
staff members, supervisors and the public
• Ability and skill to adapt to changing procedures and situations
• Dependable and flexible work habits
• Ability to clearly explain technical terms and concepts in plain English
• Physically able to lift and move computers and peripherals, occasionally
up to
50 pounds
• Ability to stoop, bend, and reach
