On some models, rear ABS brake calipers have a ratcheting mechanism
that has to be retracted in order to get new pads in. It's easy to do
but you have to know if there is one before you waste a lot of time
trying to force them back. On my Mazda there is a bolt that has to be
removed to get access to a hex-socket head gear that you need to turn
to retract the caliper.
