Since I did it years ago, I can't remember offhand if it was 2.0 or
3.0. I think it was also MDLUG that did the first couple of computer
rooms as well.
At any rate, I had to search around a find all these LUGs in the first
place and get on their mailing lists. I only sent an introductory email
and a couple of reminder emails. Past LUG wranglers, including me, paid
personal visits to most of them in the area over the years. Not all of
them were Linux ones either, like MUG and SEMiSLUG.
We might consider expanding into the more programming oriented LUGs in
the area, such as the Perl, PHP and Java ones. I never tried the Ann
Arbor Computer Society back then, as it seemed pretty Windows centric at
some point back then.
If we want more LUG folks, I would suggest giving LUG members a
discount. Base that discount on the number of members from that LUG
attending. Perhaps a prize for the winning LUG with the most attending
members, best party, longest distance traveled, coolest LUG table. A
lot of these guys are bringing in loads of their own gear, so they
should also be rewarded/compensated likewise.
If you want to do some good marketing then we need to market ourselves
at other conventions, Hamfests, Ohio Linux fest, online, ...
