As may be aware, the Hotel that Penguicon is using has been sold out.
I apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing some of you.
We had over 50 rooms availble on Saturday, and there was a rush and
now they're gone.
So, I've signed a block agreement with the Embassy Suites that is very
close to the Hilton -- approximately half a mile away.
Here's the full scoop on the the overflow hotel:
We have 20 suites available in the block -- 15 King non-smoking, 5
King smoking. Each suite has a living room with a queen size pull out
couch. It has a refigerator and microwave. The bedroom can be closed
off from the rest of the suite. These rooms are *NICE*.
The rate of $99.95 is for double occupancy, and includes a hot
breakfast (7a to 10:30a) and evening reception (5:30p to 7p) each day
(three drinks/per person alcoholic or non). Extra adults are $15 to
cover the breakfast and reception. (And I'm certainly not going to
suggest that you over occupy the room and just not say anything.
*cough* *cough*)
The Embassy Suites will be having a whole sale gem show that weekend,
so be aware that they will have extra security staff on hand. That's
also why we can only get 20 rooms. There are executive suites
available, but those will be going for significantly more money.
When making a reservation use the group code of "pen" (just like for
the Hilton). As posted before, use this link to make a reservation:

*NOTE* This block closes at Midnight April 9th! Reserve before then!
Also, if you cancel less than 72 hours beforehand you will be charged
for a full night!
If these rooms go quickly, we will be looking at other locations, such
as the Marriott where Confusion is held.
Additionally, I met with the staff at the Troy Hilton this morning.
Some folks had reported being told that 10% of the rooms were not
allocated to Penguicon. Here's what's going on: We have a number of
rooms set aside for convention functions, such as the consuites, green
room, Penguin Pit, etc. These rooms are comp'd and do not show up to
Hilton corporate as part of the room block, but they do show up
reserved. If you were talking to a corporate Hilton person, they can't
see the comp'd rooms as part of the Penguicon block. Capiche?
So, very simply, we own the whole hotel. There are no rooms available
at the Hilton unless someone cancels.
And while I am very sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing
some of you, I am ecstatic that Penguicon has acheived a full sell
out. These are the sorts of problems I prefer to have. Rest assured
that we don't have to share the hotel with any other groups, nor have
to deal with paranoid hotel staff. We are going to have a great
convention!
