[penguicon-general] Big first names on nametags

The battle between art and namespace on namebadges has been going on for
years. Kevin Standlee wrote a very nice essay on the subject for
Argentus, Steven Silver's fanzine. It's probably online somewhere, or
you can get a copy of the whole fanzine for $3 from Steven.

Basically, if you're running a "show" event, such as a commercial
comicon, then then Ticket feature of the namebadge trumps the Identity
feature.

If you're running an event where you want to encourage participants to
actually meet and interact with their fellow attendees, then you need to
have the Name take precedence over artwork and unique design.

I am personally in favor of having names in large typefaces. Going to
conventions is a friendly situation for me, but my ability to remember
names has never been great and is getting worse.

This is a good solution, but any word processing program can probably do
similar effects.
