I have never seen a vital need to change the nam,e aspect of the badge. 
I can see some advantage in this.  However, ask how much will the
graphic design of the badge take a back seat to the name?

I was under the impression that the name badge graphic design was to
Identify someone at a glance as part of the convention.

We might consider full color.  If someone has or has access to a color
laser that can handle thicker stock.  I would offer mine, but the old
Color LaserJet 5M will not handle thick paper.
