My last trip to Penguicon cost better than 400 USD, and I'm within a
day's drive.  I don't think that that qualifies as "outrageous",
but I imagine that Bo Hansen's cost to attend the con did.

As for actual registration costs, though, Penguicon is Super Cheap,
especially when you start comparing it to commercial cons, as Matt
points out.
