I think Coulton, the one musician I -really- want, we could get to preform
as well. A lot of conventions have musicians come down and play (for free)
in exchange for the usual guest things and some space to sell merch.
My dream guest lists include Warren Ellis, William Gibson, Brian K. Vaugh
(comic geek!) and Homer Hickam (aerospace engineer turned writer who does
some speculative fiction as well.) I really think someone should invite Vin
Diesel to a con sometime (he's a proud gamer) just as an attendee (with a
comp'd badge, of course.) Ray Bradbury is still alive--something that if
we're ever going to want to try to use we should do soon. He has been known
to still do the occasional convention as well.
I think we should invite Peter Jackson and George Romero sometime. Romero
really defined the zombie genre and Peter Jackson helped people begin to
take our movies seriously. Sam Raimi is one we should also look at. He's a
native Michiganer, he did the Evil Dead and Spiderman movies -AND- he's
slated to do Wee Free Men (man, if we could get Prachett to come back in '08
and Raimi to go that year. It's the year it's "slated" to come out.)
Eliezer Yudkowski would be a great guest, but is currently only known well
within his circle.
Tamora Pierce's coming makes me happy--her books were an important part of
my childhood.
