I care.  A topic being in the appropriate categories makes it more
appropriate to have on the program.  That doesn't mean that being in
those categories is the only thing to consider, or that it has a veto
on a panel; rather, it's just one more factor to take into account.

Given a choice between two slightly interesting panel topics, one of
which is sf and the other unrelated to sf or software, I'd prefer the
first; but given the choice between a slightly interesting sf topic
and a very interesting other topic, I'd prefer the latter.
