[penguicon-general] Random Panel suggestion.

I was under the impression that, well, Penguicon was an "Isn't it Cool?"
Con. Who -cares- if it fits into a category of science or one of sci fi. If
we're technically that, just because "every other con" has chocolate is no
reason to keep chocolate. (I've NEVER been to a con before that has a
chocolate ritual.) Similarly we have had things about cooking cheese as well
as tasting hot sauce.

Geeks like guns. It's -very- sci-fi in my opinion, especially if we're going
to say a lot of the Ageis stuff (like the black shirts) is cannon. What good
sci-fi action thing -doesn't- have guns? Well, that has action in it anyway.

As for alcohol, I'd argue that this is science related. (My major is all
about explaining why things are, or aren't science.) If we -want- to go the
Hot Sauce route and have a nice little lecture about how it's made and why
it is what it is and why it does what it does, that's cool. How alcohol
tastes, especially in terms of scotch (I heard the words scotch tasting come
up once) is a very complex issue that combines both science and finess.
("See how it tastes like salt water? That comes from iodine...") Also, has
anyone heard about the new Pioneer sound cabinets? They're now making them
out of old castes from different distilleries. The alcohol soaked wood is
harder and vibrates less, creating a purer sound.

Now isn't that cool?

And, on a random panel note: I think we should invite the local SCA people
down (or someone else who does something similar) and ask them to give us
some dancing lessons one day/night. I've noticed that a lot of con people
like the idea of the SCA dances cause you can dress up pretty and even if
you don't know what you're doing, they teach you in easy steps that can
involve minimal coordination.

-Molly, who is feeling verbal today.
