There's "organized fandom" (yeah, right) which is a network of fans
who know each other (or someone who knows someone who . . .). Joining
the club counts; reading, watching, and collecting as solitary (more
or less) pursuits doesn't make someone a member of fandom.
(Corresponding also does, at one time by dead tree fanzines, now
mostly on the net.)
