I'd go with that.  In my earlier years, before I was able to go to
cons, I read books, watched TV, went to movies, collected memorabilia,
joined a club (was even President at one time) and even translated a ST
novel into script form for use in a radio play, which never happened,
unfortunately.

I definitely considred myself a part of fandom.
