I'm replying to myself only to keep the thread together.

I wanted to thank everybody for the advice and thoughtful nature of all of the 
comments.  I feel slightly better having already read over half of what was 
suggested by Matt Arnold, giving me a nice, warm and fuzzy feeling that I was 
on my way.  And then the rest of he messages arrived.    :-)

I am very glad to see the discussion which arose out of my request for 
information, and the responces which followed.

I doubt that I will manage to read all of the suggestions put forth, but some 
of the more notable ones will definitely get picked up.

To respond to Matt's comment about not requesting TVs or movies:  It's 
simple - at the present I have no way to watch TV or DVDs  :-)  I intend to 
pick up a DVD player shortly, and then will start going through a lot of cool 
movies I have not yet seen.  Netflix.
