But that is no bad thing.  

Science fiction conventions seldom limit their activities to things that are 
just SF or, for that matter, just science.  They include activities such as 
belly dancing workshops, martial arts demos, and lectures on historic 
costuming and medieval illumination.  

Penguicon, by definition, starts *out* as a mixed event, intended to appeal to 
both computer geeks, specifically Linux geeks, as well as SF fen.  There's no 
reason why we should not include activities that a significant percentage of 
either or both populations consider "nifty", even if they do not fall clearly 
within Penguicon's ostensible mandate.  

Because, after all, the real purpose is to have fun, right?
