Actually, no. We had a crafts room a couple years ago, and I used it a
lot. It was a nice, low key space. When I needed a break, I'd go up
there and hand spin.

Geeks do lots of things besides program, make robots out of tin cans and
Legos, or whatever. We cook, eat, read Science Fiction (and, indeed,
many other genres, plus non-fiction), do needlepoint, spin yarn, carve
soapstone, bead, make pens out of wood, target shoot, do carpentry, etc.
After working with recalcitrant software all day, I frequently need to
make something concrete, and I doubt I'm the only geek who finds that
necessary.

I think Penguicon is enriched by the odd hot sauce panel or beading
class. One of the coolest and most useful classes I went to last year
was the ER doc's. To mangle Tom Lehrer, when correctly viewed,
everything is geeky.

Be well,
Lissa
