To recap what was done for Tracy (and could be done for Tom), there
was an auction, there was a bake sale, there were folks donating
proceeds from various events they held (e.g., my scotch tastings),
etc.
Gambling tends to push a lot of buttons for a lot of reasons, the
close ties of illegal gambling to organized crime being a biggie. Of
course, back in the old days there would occasionally appear a
"Seminar on Wealth Redistribution Through Applied Probability and
Statistics". Makes it sound so much more educational...
