I was talking to someone today on IRC and they had some ideas that I
would like to talk about at the programming meeting this weekend. I am
sending them out now so people can thing about it before Sunday.

Hi Aaron,

The following is some thoughts on ways to integrate some Game Development into
Penguicon.

1. A Game Dev competition using open source tools

- announce it everywhere - open to all.
- Categories
- - Michigan based companies only
- - Python
- - SDL
- - others?
- - Best of 2007 games... past year type award - voted by attendees.

2. A Game Dev competition between 2 teams of up to 4 running the whole
weekend.
Details announced on site. Just need a bit of space for them to sit
through the
weekend and preferably somewhere in the open, so attendees can watch as they
work. Might be able to get some big time sponsors to provide for this one.

3. Some IGDA sponsored presentations, such that we also promote the IGDA to
those in the area, that might not be in the know. Might be able to get some
folks to attend, that normally might not. Discount for IGDA members - local
and non-local. details on this later.

4. Some IGDA sponsored coding tutorial type sessions. just a thought.

5. Perhaps some demonstration space for locally produced video games...

I am sure there could be more, but the first 2 are the ones I like the best.

Also, here are links to the local chapter:

www.igdadetroit.org - seems to be down now, so the older one is at:

http://www.igda.org/detroit/ and works

http://www.igda.org/ - national / International chapter.

I have also copied Cris Boyer, who is one of the other coordinators for the
local IGDA chapter, which is a 501C non profit registered here in
Michigan - if
it counts any.

Yes I would be interested in participating more for the conference. I would
also like to make us more of a permanent fixture as well in the future, if it
all works out.

Talk to you later,

Thanks,
Rich Elswick
