[Penguicon-Concom] 501st at Penguicon

People volunteer at cons that are not not-for-profit. This lets them have
free badges. Sure, a con might not be not-for-profit, but it also might not
be making money. Legal status can be fun like that.

Youmocon is not for profit?

Just for a note: Youmacon is a volunteer-run convention as well and is not
making a lot of money... if anything, they might have broke even this year.

Martin,

here is the info we discussed on the phone about having the 501st
Stormtrooper Legion at Penguicon.

Table space is free in the Booth Fair that we will have in the
Assembly area outside the Ballroom on Friday evening. You would not go
in the dealer room, you would go in the booth fair next to tables for
other SF conventions, as well as Google, Silicon Mechanics, and other
tech companies. On Saturday it will be used for Artist Alley, but you
could move your table to the hall.

You would be very welcome to do a panel about 501, and/or Rebel Legion.

Also, for anyone who commits in advance to be on that panel, plus
marching in a parade and any other entertainment you provide, those
who do this for two hours would get the $25 reduced rate to buy your
badge. We would have to get their names so we can tell the
registration person to give them the presenter rate. Penguicon is a
not-for-profit all-volunteer event, so this is a big difference from
Motor City Comic Con, Youmacon, and Dragon Con which make a lot of
money. This means we cannot let in presenters for free.

If anyone wants to be comped, you can volunteer to gopher tasks. You
can trade in your gopher bucks for sleeping in the volunteer room,
eating a free serving of our steak cookout, get your badge cost
refunded, get into Penguicon 2009 for free, and many other rewards.

If you get together a group who can commit to do this, let me know
I'll announce it on the website blog of penguicon.org. It's good that
you and Hathor of the Rebel Legion are so stoked about this. I look
forward to it!
