Dear Concom,

Penguicon has a new webhost. We will be moving everything (web, email, mailing list, etc) to this new webhost over the coming weeks.

Why are we switching web hosts?
For those that where unable to make the meeting this past Saturday, those that didn't make it till later, or those that where not paying attention due to a side conversation. Our current web host has announced that they will be shutting there doors by the end of this year. They have not announced a date as of yet but to keep from losing data we will be moving now. The alternate solution was wait till they announce a date and try to move before they turn the servers off and we lose all of our data.

What does this mean for Penguicon?
Well we are moving to a webhost that has been in the business since 1999 (yes thats right 1999) in the Netherlands. They site atop several of the worlds largest Gigabit connections. The new web host also hosts mirrors for several of the worlds largest FOSS projects.

What will this mean for everyone?
All email addresses will now become actual email addresses instead of forwards, this means you will have to log in to a web interface to check your email. Forwarding will be available via this interface but it is highly discouraged as email history is good for those taking over your position in a future year. Spam filtering will become much improved with a web interface to the spam quarantine so that everyone can release miss tagged spam to their inbox.

When will the Change take place?
Some time over the next two weeks, this also depends on how long it takes to get everything moved and setup back up.

Why aren't we just forwarding mail any more?
I have been asked to not set forwarding back up for the sake of having a searchable email history for people that take over jobs in future years.

Who can I turn to if I have questions that are not answered in this email?
Ron B, the web master. <--- thats me by the way
