Grandpa Penguicon posted this in my livejournal when I made a call out for
Hack of Honor ideas (aimed at my steampunky friends or anyone else out
there.)
"Did you ever invite Robert Young? (One of the co-founders of Red Hat who
used his IPO money from that to start lulu.com? Yeah, that guy. And if you
got him it would be a shame _not_ to invite Tim O'Reilley too, but oh well.)
"Mitchell Baker? She's head of the Mozilla foundation.
"Jonathan Corbett is the editor in chief of Linux Weekly News, as well as
co-author of Linux Device Drivers.
"Jamie Zawinski used to be the alpha geek of Netscape, then retired from
that and started running a nightclub because he finds music at least as fun
as computers. He mostly works with MacOS X these days.
"It's still sad nobody took my suggestion of Naiomi Novik seriously. She
just finished books 4 and 5 of the Temeraire series, and before she was a
full-time writer (her series is set during the Napoleonic war, only with
dragons that work similar to zepplins) she worked on Neverwinter Nights. She
lives in New York City so would be cheap to fly in, but next year she's
likely to be too busy, because since I suggested her she made the new york
times bestseller list and I think won a hugo:

"If you want more corporate, Inna Kuznetsova is IBM's new head of all things
Linux: http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3699856 ."
FY,
Molly, who is, for the record, sorry she played down Vinge in her post. I'm
-really- excited about him coming!
P.S. As for tacking things on, Andy Looney wants to run a few games of Andy
vs. Everybody and I asked him about doing a "NASA Dropout Club Meeting" with
Munroe. But I didn't word it like that.
