I won't be able to make this meeting either.
Can someone take notes and post them to the web.
and can anything passed out at the meeting also be posted to the web or emailed out.

Subject: [Penguicon-Concom] State of the con -- nine months to go!

Hi everyone,

It's been a little while since I last posted to the list, but we've
been busy, and there's been vacations and holidays, and I'm sure the
last thing on your mind in the middle of July is Penguicon. However,
in just nine short months, we'll be having Penguicon 5.0.

We've been busy -- finalizing the hotel contract, adding GoHs and
Nifties, and rebuilding Penguicon to make it bigger and better for
next year.

I know some of what I'll be writing here has already been
communicated, so my apologies if you've already heard it, but I'd like
to summarize our acheivements over the last month.

We have a hotel. Penguicon 5.0 will be held at the Troy Hilton
(formerly the Northfield Hilton), conveniently located at Crooks Rd.
and I-75. The Troy Hilton has a long history of working with
conventions, from the former Contraption, to Convocation, to
Youmacon's inaugral year last November, and now us. We're being
treated with respect and we can expect to have the whole hotel to
ourselves. We have negotiated free wireless, and while we won't have
a twenty-four hour pool, the pool hours will be skewed to our
schedule.

We have GoH's! Besides Bruce Schneier, Randy Milholland, and John
Kovalic, we now have Christine Peterson, the person who at a meeting a
number of years back said, "Why don't you call it Open Source
Software?" She's also the founder and Vice President of the Foresight
Nanotech Institute, and serves on the Advisory Board of the
International Council on Nanotechnology, the Editorial Advisory Board
of NASA's Nanotech Briefs, and California's Blue Ribbon Task Force on
Nanotechnology. We're really excited to have Ms. Peterson join our
convention! We're still awaiting confirmation on our author GoH, so
stay tuned!

We have Nifties! I'd like to highlight just a couple --
Former GoH, and gaming diety Steve Jackson will be returning and
bringing his Chaos Toy.
Author and screenwriter Nick Sagan will be joining us. A solid
professional on his own merits, he's also the son of cosomologist Carl
Sagan.
We have many more people joining us, so I can guarantee that we're
going to have a fascinating mix of people.

We're pulling together a great team of people. I spent a good chunk
of yesterday putting together an org chart for the con, and we're
really pulling together a great team. I'll be going over this and a
project plan at the next concom meeting.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the next concom meeting in
just one short week!

Best Regards,

John Guest
