[Board] Web Hosting

I just recently did a little more research on Data Center Tier classifications.

And while Dotster is a Tier 1 Data Center, that actually is the lowest classification for a Data Center.
I had previously thought that it was the highest classification and recommended Dotster for our switch before researching the Tier levels, I just went with my misconceived knowledge of the actual classifications. If anyone would like me to send them the data on Data Center Tier classifications I will gladly do so but the text is a bit lengthly to include here.

So to get to the point, I am now rescinding my recommendation for a switch to Dotster as with my new understanding of the way the Data Center classifications work I do not think we would get better service out of them then we are currently getting.

I would like to take some more time to look around at other potential webhosts to find one that better suits our needs and requirements and I will submit my next recommendation after researching everything even the things that I think I know something about.

Subject: [Board] Web Hosting

Last week, Ron Blanchett sent me some information regarding hosting changes to our website. After all was said and done, he suggested we go with a company called Dotster:

 Dotster info:
Tier 1 Data Center
$34.95/month, same price as current webhost
10GB Disk Space and 500 GB of Data Transfer on a VPS
Root on VPS - Our current system does not allow this, we have an account on their server.
99.9% uptime garantee
Redundant Generators, UPS's, and Climate Control Systems
A dedicated IP Address, current webhost we share an IP.
Dedicated IP would allow us to accept payments online in the future if we chose to do so.

Does anyone have any comments, questions, concerns, etc? I think this is a very good step forward for us, allowing much better connectivity, control over our server, and opportunities for our future. . . And, from what I am reading, I can't see any downsides, considering it is the same price as our current hosting.

I think we should add this to the agenda for our next meeting. As an addendum to that. . . When <IS> our next meeting?

 -Chuck
